Hello to all, We continue to make tweaks to the forum. We are closing soon on having 300 members which is an impressive number of folks.
What can I do to make further improvements? what would make this site better?
Please, if you see a topic you can answer or help with...feel free to do so. We can only continue to grow when visitors come to our forum and see value in the threads.
I want to thank Gofast and LG260 for their steadfast support.
Wishing you a safe fall season.

Admin= Get new members to list the make/model/year/propulsions system type (gas-diesel-inboard-Outdrive-V Drive) / and where docked or located in their salutation (or the body of their post) so we dont have to ask these questions every time before giving a learned response to their problem.I think my slutation sums up what would be nice to see?

Some form of 'mark forums read' so I can eliminate those I've seen before or have no interest in viewing. As is, I have to open every new post in order to not see it the next time I sign on.

As I post too much I just look at the sections that have had a new post or reply (within the last few days or so) and read what is new. But, agree, a way to mark posts already read. PS: I like your salutation, good info if we could get all posters to do the same.

I think the challenge is that the signature field is an open form field. Meaning you can type anything you want in it. Versus the about info at left that is more directed. Perhaps the signature could be pre-filled with what you are saying above? Then maybe a welcome email (upon sign up) could remind folks to update their signature for increased engagement. Giving them instructions and an example to follow. 2008 Regal 3060 T 5.7l VP I/O. Pre-filled signature example: year / Regal / make / engine model / propulsion type

Maybe at least adding the location there would be good and more uniform with other forum experiences. I know I have my location in my user profile but it not showing by my post isn't so helpful.

Thanks Jon, Ya, couldnt find the "about info" either. I Like your example, just add location (Important to know if fresh/salt water/in cold or warm climate) . Suggest the following in addition to your suggestions and have all the info entered and in salutation before becoming a ROF member = FROM = year / Regal / make / engine model / propulsion type TO = your example + location. Hoping we get some more traffic here but as for some folks the boating season (depending on their location) is about over? Interesting we never get any posts from the west coast? Regal not too popular out there (or old ROF where there were some posts from The EU?

When I first come to the site, before logging in, the only section of the forum that I can see is the General Discussion section. I don't know anything about running forums, but it seems like more traffic and participation might be driven here if more of the site was open for visitors to view. As people who are not users can view the threads and learn information the forum might gain more recognition and credibility as a resource, which will drive more traffic to the site and, ultimately, more participation.
Just a thought.
Would also be nice to see more activity in the boats <25' section. Participation here mostly seems to be about cruisers, which is great, but not much going on with bowrider info compared to forums I have been involved with for other makes - perhaps that is just a function of the brand being more focused toward cruisers and the bowriders being more dependable overall than some other makes.

Good point! Probably there are 10X as many Regals under 25' than over 25' but we should be able to reply to both sizes? I had 9 boats under 25' over my life time and now just the first one over 25' but so many things have changed on marine vessels over the years(mostly the propulsion systems/engines) i dont try to give advice on anything I either didn't own or own now unless I have had experience with that model year and size boat. The 4160 has been a learning experience for me but being a retired M.E. i always like new stuff, especially the challenges with our 2001 4160 !

Has anyone noticed that when using the site from a mobile device there are no signatures on posts?

No, but I don't log in on my mobile device. Being older I like to view on my desktop with a nice big HD monitor Let see what admin. has to say? Wonder if anyone has found a way to get into the old ROF? Sorry, just had to ask.
