Need some review comments from owners of a Regal 26 XO before I make the plunge. The 33 XO is a bit out of my price range. Will I be happy with the 26 XO? Would like to travel to a destination at 122 statue miles.
Any comments on whether a generator is needed on a 26 XO will be appreciated. Is the generator only for the A/C when not docked? What about the TV, refrigerator, stove, electric toilet, etc?
Thank you all in advance.

The generator will power any 120V item. The stove, microwave, A/C and battery charger are all 120v items. Your refrigerator, TV, stereo, toilet, water system, etc are all 12volt. If you plan to spend extended time (several nights) away from shore power you are going to want a generator. One night away you can get away with battery power but you are going to want at least 2 dedicated house batteries and I would strongly suggest a battery monitor to keep track of their status. I installed this unit on my 33 express and it works great www.thornwave.com/products/bluetooth-battery-monitor-dc-power-meterBy monitoring my batteries I never let them get below a 50% charge without running my generator or hooking up to shore power.

Are you looking fro buy new? They’re is a pretty big difference between the 26XO and 33XO. I’m willing to be Regal will be coming out with a updated 28XO in the near future. If that true that may be more of what your looking for. Or look for a 33/XO used. Wound still be fairly new but less than brand new.

Hi rlazar,
I'm am focused on a used 26 XO. I found a few used 26 XO that owners have discovered the 33 XO fits better for their family. The 33 XO is nice but too big for just my wife and I, and is a bit over my budget. I didn't hear about a 28 XO but will ask at the next boat show.

I don’t know that a 28xo will be coming. The current design of the 28 ex would not work with outboards without some massive changes.

Didn't see any reference to outboards? Agree regarding not letting house battery (or starting batteries) get below 50% charge if you want to maintain charge life cycles. Depending on type of battery, 50% state of charge for Gel or AGM (I have 4X AGM's, 1X BCI group house, 3X BCI Group 34 starting batteries) is 12.3 VDC,75% charge is 12.6 VDC, full charge is 12.8 VDC. For readings to be accurate (and mean something) the batteries have to be off both battery charger and any DC load for 24 hours, then measure battery voltage. I installed a Blue Seas OLED digital voltmeter at the helm, we just monitor it every few hours or so while at sea or anchored, if it shows less than 12.5 VDC we start the gen set for a few hours or turn off the DC loads (biggest problem is the fridge stops running and audio system stops playing music!) , everything else we can live without for a few more hours) . Now 5 years out all AGM's are performing fine. But, they are all on shore power battery charger 24/7 unless at sea! Just FYI the BCI Group AGM cost $469 (was on sale) at NAPA 5 years ago and took three guys to get old flooded out and new AGM in, what a PITA! Thanks.

I am willing to bet a redesign on the 28 is in the works and will be offered with a choice on i/o or outboard. I have zero knowledge that this is the case but just looking at what Regal has been doing over the last 4-5 years makes me think changes to the 28 are in the works or will be soon. Im also guessing the same for the 35SC.

That could be, but based on the 28’s construction it will need a major redesign at the transom. the 26 and 32(now 33) have molded in swim platforms as part of the hull. The outboards on both of these models are hung on a modified section of the molded in swim platform. The entire platform on the 28 is a bolt-on. I don’t see how they would be able to modify the transom to hang outboards.

I’m still willing to be a redesign and with the option of outboards are in the works. He model below (26) and above (33) both are offered with outboards. I think it’s just a matter of time...

The 28 express came out in 2012. I wouldn’t be surprised if a redesign is on the way. I also wouldn’t be surprised if it was a 29 express/ xo.

This discussion got directed to what's the next Regal boat and not providing opinions on the 26 XO as it started out. I appreciate all the comments especially if I should add a generator. Does anyone own a 26 XO that has an opinion on the boat? Likes and dislikes.

I don’t believe anyone here as of yet has a 26xo. I think a generator would be a good option, and with the outboard engine there will be plenty of room to maintain it in the engine room. Poor access has always been an issue with generators on the 28 express due to the stern drive engine.
