Ok here is my question, have 2015 30 Express. New to boating but have about 40 hours of seat time. I am not sure exactly what setting most of you use for your motor power trim position. I realize it depends on sea conditions and such. What I have been doing is leaving the motors in the complete down position and use the trim tabs to lower the bow when cruising, which seems to work well. Just noticed that the Manual says "Normal" position for the motor power trim should be about in the middle between the Up and Down markings on the power trim gauge. How and why do most of you run your boats. I guess I could experiment on moving the power trim, but would be interested in knowing what most of you guys do. Thanks.

Typically you will use motor trim to assist with getting and staying on plane and "attitude adjustments" for the type of boating you are doing at the moment. Most of the adjustment is seat of pants. Then once you get the feel for different situations, you can apply that to the gauge. On my previous boats: When starting off,i will start with motor trim in nearly all the way down position. As I throttle up, I adjust the trim up slowly. Once I am going the speed I want, I adjust the final trim til the motor sounds the smoothest or i get the most speed for the rpm i am at. If you are trimmed too far down, your bow will be dragging. If you are trimmed too far up, you will not be able to see over your bow or on some boats, you will start porpoising. Perfect middle is best ride and gas milage. I may also adjust my trim down: taking a tight corner or when slowing down up: miss an obstacle following seas Interestingly enough, the captain that delivered my current boat (35') says he never adjusts trim other than to miss an obstacle. TONS of info and vids on the web. Try searching for something like how to use boat trim. here is one: www.formulaboats.com/blog/how-to-use-your-boats-trim-to-your-advantage/

In our situation we only have trim tabs, not outboard engines tilt/trim so= Tabs don't do much when at WOT to get up on plane with 22,000 lb. vessel, more to balance vessel port/starboard depending on passengers/load distribution. After both props repaired results with trim tabs = Still no difference in getting on plane (for us, that is about 26 knots/29 MPH or so) . When still at WOT trim tabs down vs. tabs up , loose 2 MPH with tabs down vs. tabs fully up but on a 4160 the tabs really dont do much vs. lighter boats. So, agree with other poster you just have to feel (and look at the spedo) to see where your best performance is at, up/down/or midway ! PS: For a outboard powered boat start with engine fully tucked in (lower unit tight against the transom) and when on plane start to trim out but before starting to porpose (boat rocking fore and aft and not stable).
