Hello all, my name is Tom, I joined previously when I first got my 2006 Regal 4460 back in 2013. That is an IPS 500 with the Joystick, probably the only 2006 IPS boat with Joystick since it was retrofitted with it in 2007. I managed to put almost 500 hours on her before trading on my new boat. I've been all over Still Crazy doing things like changing out the propane grill to a Kenyon, replacing the starboard engine with a new long block, rebuilding both IPS units when we bought her because she was at the 1000 hour mark, rebuilding the top end of the port engine due to it eating antifreeze two summers ago, redoing some vinyl seating, replacing the hole that was where the ice maker went in the cockpit when I bought her with a brand new Isotherm Fridge, upgrading the Stereo to a new Fusion with a new Fusion 2000 watt amp, putting Auto trim tabs on her, replacing all of the cabin faucets and shower heads simply to renew them, among other things. She was a great boat for us for 6 years, but at the end of last season we decided our boating had changed enough that we needed to trade her in, but if you have any 4460 questions don't hesitate to ask, especially around the IPS. Now moving the story forward to 2019/2020, due to my life primarily moving from the Northern Chesapeake in the summer to the Southern Jersey Shore (I'm still in the Northern CB during the spring and fall) we decided to trade the 2006 4460 for a brand new 2020 33 OBX with outboards. Moving to Outboard power for the Jersey Shore is a necessity. The 4460 ended up sitting at our marina on the Sassafras River in MD most of the summer not being used for the last 2 years. We were using my fully restored 1996 Bryant 210 with Wakeboard tower and 5.7 liter Mercury I/O as our Shore boat for the last two seasons and while that boat was OK for the shore, having an I/O boat in salt water was not smart in the long run. So as planned that boat is going to sons and will be used during the summer in the northern Chesapeake bay for wakeboarding and tubing and maybe a couple weekends at the shore. I couldn't justify paying all the money to maintain the 4460 and only using it in the spring and fall, so hence trading her in. Our main shore boat will now be a 2020 33 OBX and we are very much looking forward to getting her splashed in the next few weeks. I haven't found many here that have the 33 OBX, but I had a few non-stock upgrades done to her before taking delivery including: Hot water upgrade, all chain rode upgrade, Auto Trim Tab upgrade, front anchor wash down (a necessity anchoring in the northern Chesapeake), Camper canvass for the front cabin entry, and some additional battery capacity. This is on top of options like full canvass, Generator, Grill, hardtop, SureShade, etc. Pics of all 3 boats included below. The 4460 "Still Crazy" is still for sale by the dealer that took it in trade AM/PM Marine. He has a solid price on her considering the upgrades I've done to her over the years. While she has 1450+ hours, she was professionally maintained the full time I owned her for engines and exterior cleaning, compounding and waxing. She has newer IsingGlass, SunPad, Carpet, dark water lines, electrical cords, and also the engine upgrades I mentioned. Definitely worth looking at if you are on the east coast and in the market for a nice Regal 4460. I have no skin in the sale since the dealer took her in trade if you are wondering, I'd just like to see her land in a good place. Still Crazy II, the 33 OBX should be splashed in the next 2 weeks or so. I'm interested in getting in touch with some 33 OBX owners if you guys are out there, drop me a line. This new boat will take some getting used to by me on the Chesapeake, but its a move I needed to make for the family. Also, if you have or are thinking about a 2002 to 2011 Regal 4420, 4460 and have questions, drop me a line, I put a lot of hours on our 4460, loved the boat and wouldn't be trading it if it wasn't for the life change that's happened over the last couple of years.

Welcome Tom. You might be my next best friend! I have a 2007 4460 with IPS drives and would like to consider many of the same upgrades you did. You had to rebuild the IPS Pod drives at 1000 hours? I'm curious what was involved there. In my [new to me] boat's case, there is also extra wear on the hull under the port pod where it spins ... it has rubbed off a lot of the bottom paint there and the surveyor recommended following up with Volvo to see if that was normal or if there is misalignment or something else to address. The grill replacement might be in my future if the current gas grill fails. It's hard to light and keep stay lit now but I'm still new enough to using it that I hope it is more of user issue and not equipment failure. Upgrading the Fusion sound system would be nice, if nothing else, so I could get (assuming) a Bluetooth head unit so I can play music from my iPhone. Also, getting SiriusXM on the unit would be nice. The current, original unit supports it, but like my last head unit on my past Regal, i'm guessing I have to buy a plug-in module to make it work. Auto Trim Tabs sounds luxurious too ... not required, but if not a pain to install, probably worth it. Did you ever get into the entertainment unit cabling? I upgraded the salon tv, but plug into the power plug above the sink. I would also like to replace the Yamaha audio unit with one that supports HDMI, but getting behind the whole entertainment unit to figure out the cabling and power wiring is perplexing to me so far.

So because my IPS's were Gen A there were things that needed to be done, recommended by Volvo, to extend life. I believe this included Oil Cooler lines, new clutches, and on one of my units I also had to replace the prop shaft since it was bent. The good thing is that I identified all fo these things, me researching and the surveyor I had before I purchased the boat, therefore the seller picked up most of this cost. Some of the work, like clutch pack replacements, were due to the hours being at 1000. I think replacing those is part of the 1000 hour service. I ate I think 2k of what would have been 10k of cost back in 2012, the seller paid for the rest. I think there was one or two other things our Volvo IPS vendor did to those A units to make them really be at the spec of IPS B or C units I think, but it's worth researching if you have IPS A and haven't had anything done to them yet. Bottom paint rubbing off where the IPS's turn should not really be a concern. My bottom paint rubbed off pretty evenly through a season on both drives. Your uneven could be an alignment issue or simply that drive been used more at those angles. Which would depending on how the previous owner used the boat. Maybe they always docked one way vs the other, or perhaps always turned and backed into their slip a certain way and maybe didn't use the boat enough elsewhere to even the wear. Alignment should be good if you boat tracks straight at speed. if you see it driving one way or the other at speed with the steering wheel centered, you should have alignment looked at. when we got our boat, I think I used the propane grill once and was freaked out about propane sinking into the hull and causing an explosion that I simply decided to bite the bullet and replace it. The work was fairly easy in pulling out the old one and wiring the new Kenyon into the switch plate that was there under the grill on my boat. So no real hard wiring necessary. The biggest issue is that the Gas grill is larger than the frame of the Kenyon so I had to do something to make the opening smaller. What I ended up doing was getting a frame made by CutToSizeMetal.com in Stainless to support the Kenyon. Picture below. I simply measured what I needed to cover the existing opening with about a half inch all around and then had CutToSize cut that plate out of Stainless and cut the opening in the middle to the Kenyon spec. Worked and looked great. The only issue I ran into is that the lower right corner of the frame was very close to the lid that closes over the grill area. I was able to position things fine though as you'll see in the picture. The other benefit of the electric grill is you can use it in Marinas! Clearly you need to run the gene at anchor to use it, but we never had an issue with that and the Kenyon is great. I would buy one with a free standing cover, for cooking like an oven. My wife even made pizzas on the thing at anchor. The other thing I would recommend for cooking on board is getting an single burner electric induction cooker. With the right pots, my wife could almost cook anything on that, and even out by the grill and it was quick. The Kenyon dual burner below was simply way to slow to cook. After half a summer we never used the cooktop under the corian and simply used the induction cooktop all the time. The Fusion upgrade wasn't hard as the it simply went into the spot for the old Clarion and I positioned the amp in that cabinet under the sink as well. The overall upgrade was outstanding and I kept the white 6x9 speakers Kenwoods I think, that were in the boat originally. 5 years ago the Fusions didn't come with Bluetooth in the box, I simply added an adapter. I know that comes in the box today. The the Auto Trim tabs were $300 I think and I installed them myself. Simply mounted the electronic brain behind the GPS under the helm and wired that up to the stock Bennet trim switch. I also had to put another unit at the control box at the transom of the boat, but it was simply mount it and connect 4 wires if I remember right. To be honest this was the biggest upgrade to me of everything I did. So much so I had these installed on the 33 OBX. On the OBX it's a different system, but what I found with the 4460 is that with the IPS setup and no tunnels under the boat, people moving around on the boat greatly affected its running attitude at cruise. I was constantly fiddling with the Bennet controls. Once I installed the Auto trim, I never had to touch the.controls again. The boat was always at the right running attitude. As for the System in the cabin, I started to replace the TV with a newer flat screen since I tended to run into the existing TV some times walking out of the cabin since it stuck out so far. Lots of wiring behind cabinetry, ceiling and walls. To be honest I could figure out how to pull out the old TV electric hook up to get to that corner behind the microwave. I could have run cabling on top of the walls or ceiling but I didn't want to do that. So I gave up, always said it was going to be a winter project, since I started it midsummer and didn't want to tear the boat apart so much, but never got to it. So I looked behind the Yamaha once and how to get to that cabling depends on where your microwave is. If your Microwave is in the corner left of the dual burner, you can get back there somewhat by pulling out the drawer to the right of the sink, but to really do a replacement I think you'd have to pull the fridge out completely. Probably not super difficult, but that would give you easier access to that wiring.

Seasun,
One thing I should add on the Stereo upgrade is that I also installed a 10" Wetsounds Sub with the Amp install. that also really helped with the upgrade. I installed the sub in the helm seat bottom.

Tom, did you try to post pictures? A big round negative sign shows up below your post? Sounds like you have done a lot of work and investigating! You are doing great!
With our 2001 4160 she is still doing great, lots of maintenance, replaced pumps, halogen to LED bulbs, chep Kenwood audio to a Fusion Bluetooth capable head unit, new JL Audio 7.7's in the radar arch, 4X Klipsch 6.5" 2 way outdoor bracket mounted speakers mounted to underside of arch, a new JL Audio 4X 150 watt RMS amp for deck speakers, and just installed a JL Audio 12" infinite baffle marine sub with self made 1/2" thick sea board , and new JL Audio JX 1000/1 rms sub amp. I enjoy good music even though I am 71, younger sons don't like my music , kids (37 and 39 years old) ! With many years of both designing and building home audio speakers and buying a lot of cheap marine speakers I have to love the JL Audio marine stuff, little pricey but worth the money! I previously posted a 4 page word dock with everything I have done to the 4160, if anybody is interested in a copy I would be glad to re post the file. I am pretty anal regarding recording everything done, wht what done/used, etc.

I wonder if it's a permission issue. they are in google photos and I moved them to a shared album and simply copied the link and put them here. Can you see them now? Sounds like a great upgrade on your 4160 sound system. Yes, I'm aware of JLAudio and they are probably a little better than Fusion overall, yes pricey but you get what you pay for. I'd love to see the list of upgrades you've done on your 4160 and a few pics as well. Are those still out here in a thread you can share in reply?

So I added attachments on this post for the pictures. Trying to see if this works. Its really strange that I can see the pictures in my post, so it must be a permissions issue I can't seem to figure out.

there seems to be two options to post pictures. Put a link to a site that host the pics or add them as attachments. Originally, I added the pics with the link approach, using the 7th icon from the right from the icons at the top of the add post screen. This is how the very first post was done at the top of the thread. When I did this right after I posted I could see the pictures. The were being served from Google Pictures. Eventhough the pictures original showed for me in that first post right after posting, now in my view on that first post the pictures aren't showing only a rectangle with a blue square and a ? in the middle shows. But if I right click on that question mark and click on open image in new tab or browser window I can see the image. I'm interested in understanding if the same thing happens for you guys.
When I added the post at the bottom responding to the picture not showing via the link method, I noticed the "Add Attachment" button on the top right of the thread editor window and used that approach and simply pushed the picture up to the forum.

I think some of you guys will think I am nuts:) but that is from my education and professional life background (engineering and engines) . As I HAVE BEEN RETIRED SINCE 2006 it keeps me busy as well as losing some of my previous memory capability it is a way to keep track of what I have been doing to the 2001 beautiful Regal 4160!

Guess I am nuts as well as my documents are involved but setup differently than yours. I have a winterizing parts listing, a maintenance log broken out by engine, generator, boat, etc. and a checklist for winterizing / maintenance. Here is my checklist for your review as well - Regal 3860 Winterizing Checklist.pdf (407.81 KB)

Thanks Jef, fortunately where we are no winterizing needed Lake never freezes and on shore power under a dock roof with dual HVAC units only need to turn one on to 55F heat mode to keep cabin above freezing for the few days below about 30F we have in winter.

Now I am totally jealous; Winter is so difficult without being able to be on the boat and in the water. Must be nice!!
