2860 - Commodore
Deck refrigerator rusted out , should have kept shell , but was so pissed looking at that rust bucket , I dumped it , thinking will purchase new , BUTTTTT I seldom used it , Only held over fill from cooler . O coarse opening door cans rolled out My Regal ( really wife's Regal ) has the large swim platform , I keep a cooler on platform. Holds beverages and doubles as a seat for me when I drop a line Started searching for a replacement , really bugged me spending a lot for refrigerator never used , HOW ABOUT A storage cabinet / tackle draw combo , Deck Storage on the 2860 is limited , Problem I am facing is cut out is extremely tight , Regal did not cut the fiberglass for the refrigerator opening even , refrigerator border covered , Sides are tight , Contours wider at top gets narrower at bottom Fiberglass is curved Any cut must be exact , Boat outfitters can make a nice custom made storage draw fishing tackle unit that can fit into whole except no returns if its off , One or two storage units from catalog look like they would fit , Were it gets costly is non standard unit designer works with customer Any body faced with same issue , changed too a storage cabinet
thanks

My thoughts = Re cut the opening to some exact dimension (i.e. 24"wide X 36" high and actual depth, whatever that might be ) then order the cabinet from Boat outfitters and indicate the OD of the new cabinet should be 1/4" less than your exact re cut opening and add 3/4 - 1" on the width ! Dont forget to measure the depth of the opening as well! Have them make the flange 3/4 to 1" " larger on both of the sides and just 3/4" on the top to leave some area to drill and put SS mounting screws into. .PS: Make sure the new cut opening is square and plumb to the floor when you re cut it!

I retro fitted my cockpit refrigerator on my 4460 with an Isotherm that was around $1k. Not cheap, but the thing worked fantastic for the years I had the boat. I liked that Fridge more than the drawer mount Isotherm they put on my 33 OBX. I tried to get them to change them out but that is all they do now. The opening in my 4460 was covered by a door, and due to that the previous owner before me pulled out a broken ice maker and replaced it with an electric only dorm room fridge. It look hideous when you opened the door since it was simply sitting in there not mounted. I ended up cutting the opening smooth and then filled the gaps with composite wood in white on both sides. Mounted the composite wood to the sides of the opening and then the new fridge to them. I had gaps at the top and bottom and I filled the top with some aluminum mesh and left the bottom open. It ended up being where I stored my cabin key when I wasn't on the boat. While the cuts right and left were better, they weren't perfect, but I still think it looked good. Pic below.
