Hi, I’m new to this forum. I have a 2005 Regal Windows Express. I’m upgrading my stereo and stereo remote to a new Kenwood BT. The existing Kenwood stereo remote on the steering wheel (up down and radio change) doesn’t work. I’m wondering if anyone has done the wiring on this and could help me out?

If the new Kenwood BT is BT just use your smart phone with appropriate app to control everything from the phone. our Fusion RA-70 N can be controlled completely from our i Phones and Fusion app!

I have a 2005 boat also, but my boat didn't have a steering wheel remote, mine was mounted on the dash and wired to the Kenwood. If you used a new Kenwood Marine radio (vs an automotive version), did you connect the wires from the radio head unit to the boat's radio wires to include the 'remote' control wire? If yes, you may have a chance. Remove and check the steering wheel remote, I'm sure there probably is an internal battery that is probably dead by now. Not seeing it myself, I can't give good advice. The battery may be soldered in place so you may need some electronic soldering skills to replace it. Then there probably is a receiver wired under the dash panel somewhere and that probably connects to the Kenwood remote control wire. If the steering wheel controller can't be repaired by replacing the battery, you can then add a wired in remote to your dashboard. Or, as said, download the Kenwood remote control app on your phone and use Bluetooth to control it.

Thanks for the responses. Yes I’m planning on using our phones for the BT on the new radio. With that being said it’s nice to have the steering wheel controls especially when towing someone skiing etc. I read on the FB Regal boats forum that the steering wheel controls are battery operated wireless - it takes a watch battery so I’m gonna check on that and see if it works. The new BT has steering wheel control wiring

I have a 2008 Regal 2200 with a steering wheel mounted remote. On mine, the remote is a wireless remote and not wired to the stereo at all. You occasionally have to pop it out (use a small screw driver or pocket knife) and replace the battery. It uses a battery like a key FOB - 2032 or something like that.
