We just bought a 1998 2760 Commodore. At speeds up to 1100 rpm the boat will drift to port and starboard with no change in the steering wheel. I have been thinking about this for the past week and I think there is some wear in the steering components. The Regal manual says "refer to the steering manufacturer's literature in the owner's packet", but I do not have that. Can anyone tell me the top two or three components to look at for wear? I would guess this is not as simple as adjusting something. Thank you

Welcome aboard! Please include all info in your profile / salutation to your posts, so have to assume you have out drives and not inboards? Do you have power steering (I would think so) . Check drive belt and power steering fluid Reservoir for full level. Also, dont know if you want to do this if in the water to check play between both out drive and determine if there is a any excessive play (sloppiness)? If so, could be the linkage between the two lower units ( if you have twin out drives)?

single outdrive power steering
Fluid level was okay. Drive belt is in good condition. I found the shop manual online and they recommend replacing steering cable pin and tightening the cable nut so I am going to try that first.
Thanks

Great. So you do have power steering, could be either steering wheel cable gear box at the helm or the couplings you indicated that connect the steering cable to the power steering cylinder/actuator etc? Your picture looks big for a 27'er?
