Hi everyone, I am new to this forum. I have a regal 3760 , 2010, with VP 8.1 Gi. Recently I have changed the power trim tab on port side ( I’m march ). When I took it out of storage and launched the boat , it worked initially.
I told it for a ride, when I tried to plane, the warning sign reading power trim Tab failure came out on the dash.
Now when I try to trim it up or down, it doesn’t work ?! No noise , no click , nothing ! It seems as if the electrical connection is shot down to the unit . Any idea what could that be ?
Thanks

I'd check the fuses first and then use a meter and see if you are getting power at the motor. Are the tabs electric or Hydraulic. If they are hydraulic, I would make sure you didn't lose all of the hydraulic fluid to the tab due to a lose connection. If electric, perhaps the electrical connection to the tab is broken? Does your tab on the Starboard side work normally?

Question ...are you referring to the trim tabs or engines power trim? I had the same boat (even same year) and the trim tabs didnt have a dash to show any error. (Just an LED panel showing their position). May be you had replaced the power trim module of the port engine? (Its located outside mounted on the right of each drive).
If the problem is indeed the port trim tab; its good to check if the tab itself is moving (position sensor might have failed).
Pls provide more info if possible..tks!

good question, I assumed it was the Tabs when he used that term. WE'll have to see.

My apology ! It was the starboard power trim they was changed last year and this year I had to change the port side power trim. So I am talking about the power trim for sterndrive and not trim tabs which are working fine.
Thanks

Hello everyone , I am new to this forum , I own regal 3760, 2010, VP, 8.1Gi, 375 HP I just changed the power trim for the engine drive on the port side . Now it is giving me the trouble by not working all the time !! When I am at the dock and starting the engine before leaving the dock , it works perfectly , soon after leaving the dock, after few minutes on driving idle , the power trim failure lights up on the screen and the power trim for the port drive doesn’t work and the indicator gauge For the power trim moves violently up and down !? Any idea what the problem can be ? My mechanic came and checked the fuse which was perfect . Could this be trim sender ?
Thanks a a lot for your help.

I bet its the sender; you can check if the drive is actually moving looking at the water flow at the stern. The sender has a plug inside the engine compartment so you can by pass it and leave it in a fixed position (all the way down) to avoid the error. (I had to replace one in my 2010 3760 when the boat had less than 200 hours..)

I think you are right. The port side power trim works just fine when I turn the keys on , it goes up and down without any problem, the minute I start the engine , the power trim failure lights up in the dash and drive stops moving !! So I had to do with trim sender ? Is it a big job to change the sender ? Any idea how much the piece is and how long it takes to change it?
Thank you for all your helps!

So to summarize, you dont have a problem with trim tabs (may or may not have trim tabs on a outdrive boat?), just port out drive? Try actuating the port engines outdrive trim fully up or down up and down after starting engines and leave it up or down, and after out to sea, shut o engines then see if port did or did not go up or down from where you put it at idle after shutting off engine when out to sea!?

Yesterday , I tried to start the engines before our outing , wouldn’t start ! It read power trim too high ! I tried to move the power trim on the shift up and down for the port side , it wouldn’t start .... finally after a few try , my both engines started ... I left the dock , but immediately realized that the port drive was too high because it was almost splashing the water with idle , where the starboard engine was so quiet and the drive was completely in the water . I had to turn back with all my guests to the dock and try to adjust the power trip For the port while at the dock and engine turned off. After few tries , I finally was able to bring the port drive down to almost the same level as starboard drive . We had a beautiful 2 hours cruise, and I was even able to plane and cruise at 40miles for about 5 minutes .
I am puzzled what could be the problem with port drive tab? Any ideas ??
Thank you

I have a 2007 3760 since new....one of the warranty problems I had was the out drive trim/tilt would activate when I was docking or maneuvering with the shift levers. After quite of bit of investigation the mechanics found a control wire looped and pinched in the shift lever pivot/slide....it exposed the bare wire and was completing the circuit to move the tilt.....very frustrating when you are trying to dock in the wind......pull the cover off the snifter and look at the wiring just to make sure. Yours sounds a little different being newer.

Thank you mypleasure. I spoke to a mechanic today and he told me it might be trim limit switch. I am suppose to bring my boat tomorrow him to check it . I will however check the wires to make sure they are all connected property.
Thanks again! Happy boating everyone

Yes, all this electronic stuff is nice when it works! With V drives we do have Bennett trim tabs, they worked fine for 18 years then hydraulic pump went out but that was easy to diagnose, neither tab went up or down (motor shot) and no noise from motor when actuating tabs. Good luck with your fix and let us know what it was causing the problem!

Thank you everyone for your replies.
I finally took it to a experienced Certified Volvo Mechanic and after running 1hr diagnostic tests with his expansive computer , he detected that trim sender is the problem. I had to take the boat out of the water and they happened to have the part ( digital trim sender ) in stock... So after almost two days lost and over 2k, now port power trim ( drive trim ), is working beautifully. They charged for 4 hours labor for changing it , and an hour For the diagnosis....... Now the boat is running very smooth. Once again, thank you everyone for your reply.
