Lg, post pics of the battery bank in your engine compartment...also, what setting is your charger set to to charge the LiFePO4‘s and your engine batteries? I don't have lithium batteries...I have AGM.....I'M sure my electrician set my new charger for AGM.....I have not messed with his settings on the charger...I suppose I should check to make sure he didn't forget to get the settings correct.....I also have two chargers....don't ask me how he wired it but he is a pro

2 refrigerators, 12 volt fan on continuous. And then various quick loads like toilet flushing, water pump, sump pump What 12 VDC fan? The HVAC units on continuous fan or a small 12VDC/ 120 VAC fan? Again the accurate Blue Seas OLED Voltmeter I installed on our helm is what we watch for, when is shows the 1X 5 year old 8 D AGM house battery below 12.4 VDC, time to shut off unnecessary loads or start gen set. . To be honest, we only overnight one night when on the hook (kinda Small lake compared to ocean 2/3/4 overnights) so no long time running any DC loads on house battery. i can imagine if your on the hook for 2/3/4 days you will deplete your house batteries? I am thinking the big difference in our house battery life/usage is how many nights/times we are on strictly house battery?
We stay out several nights in a row a few times a season. Around July 4th we are out for 5-7 nights and the last week of July we are out 8-10 nights. The rest of the weekends are 2-3 nights each. The long trips put a strain on the batteries.

I am using the Gel setting in profile 2 on the ProNautic 12-40P charger. It keeps everything in range for the starting and LiFePO4 batteries. And I verified that with the battery manufacturer.

I think you have me convinced.... would love some pics and also what adaptor did you use for the terminal post to The factory battery cables? Might order a house battery to replace my single lead acid house. We use the generator a lot but for fall/winter, might just use the battleborn battery.

The adapters are called flag to post terminal adapters. Most Napa stores should have them. www.napaonline.com/en/p/NW_728219?cid=paidsearch_shopping_dcoe_google&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI55KYvMut6wIVg4nICh2l0QJOEAQYASABEgKX_PD_BwEI will try to get pics this weekend.

The second pice is my battery monitor and current shunt to keep track of house battery stats. I recommend a monitor for anyone who spends time out on the hook.

Thanks for the pics. Same setup except I have a bilge heater where your stbd side 2nd battery. I went ahead and ordered an ionic 100AH lithium battery that has a built in Bluetooth monitor. Will be replacing my lead acid house battery and using the profile 2 gel setting on the charger. Confirmed with ionic that 14.4 bulk charge will work. The gen set runs all the time when we leave the dock for now, but come fall the house battery will do most of the work.

Sounds good! What did the 100ah Li-Ion battery and terminal adapters cost? Still wondering why you guys dont run your gen set (with a 40 AMP house charger charging it) a few hours every day before bed time to bring back the house battery (hopefully a AGM, not flooded/wet cell)? Our group 8 D AGM house battery (now 5 years old) rated 245 AH and 1450 Amp cold crank rating. Paid $465 from NAPA on sale 5 years ago! Cant justify paying 3-4 times as much for a 100 AH battery? Just my thoughts.

Just my thoughts. $845 for the battery shipped and $6 for postadaptor. It’s a size vs AH vs weight discussion. Lead acid vs agm vs gel vs lithium is a lengthy topic. I do run my Genset all the time, but that usage will subside come fall/winter.

Yes, not to mention the increase in performance for all of your 12 volt items that are now running at optimal voltage for 95% of the battery rated AH. My toilet flushes better, windlass is faster, Fusion Stereo boots up quicker, bilge blowers are noticeably stronger, etc.. it is very nice to go through the entire night and still be well over 13 volts in the morning. I do run the generator an hour or 2 each day to cook and whatnot.

Yes, the Li-Ion battery will maintain its voltage longer thru the discharge cycle .OK, 100 AH Li-Ion vs 245 AH AGM probably does what you want it to do.That is all that matters if you are happy with it. Battleborn has good ratings from some U Tube videos I have watched. Mostly used on solar whole house systems with a inventor providing 120 VAC (at 85/90% efficiency). Yes, conversation on house batteries could get too deep for most of us, me included You guys stay safe!

Kicking myself for not going LiFePO4 battery sooner! Installed the battery earlier in the week and everything almost got a kick in the nuts to work better. Toilet, fresh water pump, fans and even charging phones and iPad seems to go faster. Went with ionic 100AH battery that came with 108AH cells. Installed and changed the charger to profile 2 Sealed which gives a 14.6v charging and 12.8-13.4 auto maintain. The ionic battery sits at 13.3 when not charging. Built in battery monitor that comes with its own app. So now I can monitor batteries without turning anything on. 😁 Some pics:

Yup pretty awesome stuff!
I used the sealed setting the first week but when I returned to the boat the following week my batteries were at 12.87 volts and the charger was on standby. I changed to gel and now the charger will maintain at 13.2 instead of 12.8.

Assume you mean "float" charge (typically about 12.8 VDC) not standby? I am thinking "sealed" is the same thing as gel/AGM? Our Charles 40 amp charger switch indicates (allows) a choice between "flooded/wet cell" or AGM/gel. Also, believe state of charge % (voltage) on any battery requires the battery to be off charge and disconnected from any load for 24 hours for voltage to mean anything? We are approaching 1000 hours on our 2001 VP 8.1 GSiI-A engines. Still running great!! I believe these 8.1's are bullet proof if you maintain them and no WOT for hours per trip! Knock on wood (teak)!
