I have a 2002 3860 Commodore. I have some gunk in one of the tanks (diesel ) I think it's algae. How can I tell if i can pull fuel from one tank . I have a transfer pump but not sure how or if I can pull from one tank.

First, hope I'm understanding your question, but not sure on the desiel, but on my gas 3560 there is a manifold lever/switch to control which tank/tanks you pull fuel from. Should look something like this

If one tank having algae (not sure how you believe algae) most likely other tank as well. If actually algae most likely water is the culprit. Highly recommend you find marina/fuel dock that can fully pump out both tanks, flush, add algicide/cleaner and then refill both with fresh #2D diesel fuel! Some fuel docks possibly can recover your current fuel and filter it and replace in tanks but dont recommend that if your fuel has been in tanks for 2 years+ the fuel has also probably agumulated (or water in it turning fuel to sludge). How full are your tanks now and how long was fuel in there before noticing that problem? Hopefully you have combo fuel filter/water separators with water in fuel alarm and if so, any water in filter or never check or no alarm?

Also, we have a cross over valve that allows our (gasoline) engines to pull from one tank or the other as well as gen set fuel supply valve allowing gen to pull from either tank to balance tank levels when running gen set for long periods.
