Hi All.
I have had BoatUS/GEICO for the last 7 years and they have gone insane with their latest renewal proposal.
They devalued my hull value by $19k, added a bunch of deductibles, raised my premium by over $100, and changed the "Freeze Coverage" saying they only coverage freeze damage if the boat and systems are winterized by a commercial marina.
So..... obviously I'm not happy and want to obtain some other quotes for coverage.
Who do you all use for your boat coverage?
Praise and complaints about your insurance company are welcome.
I'm looking for names of companies to contact for prices.
Thanks !

I have had Geico for years and they always beat anyone else on price. I just got the renewal and although it’s not my boat on paper, the insurance stayed the same and the freeze protection has not changed. I am in fresh water, not sure If that matters.

Had the same issue with Geico....having 3 boats, premium increases are a serious hit. So I shopped around and Progressive gave me the best price. Shop around and move on until geico lowers their prices and you can move back to them. It’s a number game and once an insurance carrier hits above a certain number, they raises prices randomly to lower probability risk within a specific portfolio and a market area.

I have Progressive and had wonderful results processing a couple of claims through them. I am very happy with Progressive Insurance.

We have State Farm and it's very reasonable; plus they are typically MUCH easier to deal with if you file a claim than the dot com-type companies. For what it's worth we have boat, autos and home with them so there is a price break there.

We have been using Markel through JW Terrell for many years. They specialize in boat insurance and have very reasonable rates.

i am using a multi insurance company broker that after a few years of coverage my current insurance company just keeps creeping up in price even though never a claim. Suggest you contact a local insurance broker and get some competitive quotes before renewing. Be careful, you will get a low ball quote to get you on board and then next years they will increase your price for some unknown reason (to make up for the low quote they originally gave you to get you to insure with them)! Ya, crazy, our 2001 4160 seems to keep going up in value per insurance company but if you search for current value it is way way down form original purchase price! So, to counter that BS I just indicate I only want $90k or so in replacement value and get cost back down to where is should be. If boat sinks or burns up just give me $90 k and call it even?

Dock mates dont usually mean a good insurance price? Our neighbor was a state farm insurance broker and when rates when up he couldn't do anything about it! So, just shopped around and new policy $236 lower.

I went from Geico/Boat US to Progressive. They were a lot cheaper on my '07 4460. I haven't had any claims so I can't say anything about their service.

I have Progressive as well on my 2020 33 OBX and my 1996 Bryan 212. I never had a claim with progressive on the bigger boat, but I have on the smaller one and they were very prompt with incident review and payment on the incident. I find them a bit more expensive from others, but they don't put many restrictions on my use of the boat's. Where my previous policy on my 2006 4460 was a bit cheaper with Windsor Mount Joy, but there were restrictions that I had to keep the boat in the Chesapeake Bay or put in an time based change which incurred costs to run it to Cape May for example for the weekend. Windsor Mount Joy were fairly prompt on payment for the only incident I had with the 4460 but did require a full survey about every 3 or 4 years. I haven't had that need from Progressive on either boat. I should mention that my Bryant is covered for value, due to it being a restored boat that is over 20 years old.

Find a local agent, preferably who you have car and home insurance with. If he is a multi company agent let him find the best rate. All of us telling you who we have in our area and on our vessel wont do much good?
