We bought a 2007, Regal 4460. It has Merc 8.1l HO engines (420 hp), V-drives, gas. We replaced the props on it but I am not sure the prop guy replaced exactly as the engines don’t hit the same rpm that the survey reported ( he reported high cruise of 4600 rpm and max of 4800). I can only get 4000 rpm now. Also not achieving the speed the surveyor reported (26.4 knots). We don’t have the old props. Does anyone know what the diameter and pitch on their props are and what max rom/speed they are achieving.

Had a Regal 3880 with the same engines (mine was a bit lighter so that may make some difference) but I had 22 X 22 props on my boat. I could achieve roughly 4800 rpm and 32+ mph with 1/4 tanks. I chased a problem with those particular engines for over a year when it was not achieving top RPM. It turned out to be injectors that were clogged and replacing them solved the problem.
First I would find out what props you have, with it not getting to max RPM or the top speed, I am guessing you may have a different issue. Unless they put over sized (diameter) props on with a smaller pitch, which is unlikely due to the regal's prop pockets restricting much bigger diameter prop, then you should either be getting max rpm's or top speed if it is a prop issue.

Dont believe over sized dia. props installed?? and if loosing engine RPM would be higher pitch props the problem? If you have Faria RPM gauges suggest you should check them as ours are notoriously inaccurate? To do that, get a OBDM connected to your engines when running WOT to verify helm tach's! After having our 22" props pulled/ repaired (minor damage) we went from 24 knots to 27 knots (about 30 MPH). Would think on your 4460 should be doing about the same speed and RPM depending on your total vessel weight? Why did you have prop's replaced? To grt a more accurate reading on boat speed at WOT use the GPS function on your smart phone? That is what we do, forge about the helm speedo's!

When we bought the boat, one prop had a 1” piece out of it so we asked Marina to pull and fix. When they pulled both, they said they had suffered from poor anode replacements and were weak as evidenced by pink metal. We figured better to replace than run them

We figured better to replace than run them Hind sight, why didnt u just get original props repaired. We did ours last year, minor dings, small bend in one blade, about $300 each (total freight from GA, repair, and returned) and sent to the original prop manufacture (that Regal used) in FL ( General Propeller) . Gained 4 knots after repair and small vibration gone! We have 22"X21", #6 cup. Send Regal a e mail with Hull number and ask what props were originally installed, that is what I did and got answer in 2 days!

That was the original plan but because they had been sacrificed due to stray current, there was no strength left to allow for repairing.

Dont know if your in salt or fresh water (no info in you posts or salutation?) and if on shore power when at dock. Could be a galvanic corrosion problem if not properly grounded to shore power and/or never had anodes checked? Have a marine electrician check that!

Yes, look really bad! AS pitch and dia. should be stamped on original props (on the hub) wonder why marina may have installed over dia. or higher pitch props to replace them? Contact REGAL and give hull number and ask what original props were and compare to what marina put on! Hopefully you have a invoice indicating what marine put on? Glad our 4160 has been in fresh water (and wet) all its 20 years of life

We dock in Salt water at Charleston. Marina said zinc had leached out, probably from grounding issue. He said the pink color was an indication of zinc depletion Those picture are amazing. The metal composition change is fascinating to me. Thanks for sharing

it's amazing what electrolysis will do to metal without the enough Zinc Protection. Pictures demonstrate that clearly.

Regal gave me the following information for anyone with similar boat Prop 22” D x 21” P, #6 Cup Range 205 miles Expected top speed 35 mph Props exactly Same as ours, but not sure about 35 MPH. Are you sure it is not MPH vs. knots? Happy you got reply from Regal, just give hull number and ask question!

Yes, it’s mph, I believe that’s what I had in my post.
