Anyone replace their DP on the volvo? I have a 28 express, hit something really hard and bent both props pretty good. Was wondering if there is anything special that needs to be done when I change them out. Not a mechanic at all but looks easy. Any advice appreciated.

Years back I hit a dead head log stirred up from a cruise ship......the props hit the log and of course bent to hell.....when I took it in for replacement the mechanics told me there is a shear collar on the shaft that is supposed to be protection for all the inner workings of bearings main shaft etc.......it apparently did its job but it destroyed everything inside that it was protecting in that moment of impact.
good luck

They can be fixed by specialized shops, no need to replace them. Ive had repaired several DP props from my last two Regals. Only one special adapter tool is required to remove the front propeller nut and a block of wood to lock each prop in order to loose each nut. Its advisable to put anti seize lubricant in the shaft before reinstalling them. (TEF GEL is the best!!) . Both nuts need to be torqued at the right spec as well.

Yes, if you can get props off send them to a highly recommended prop repair shop (dont know who that would be as we have V drives with 23" bronze props, had boat pulled last year and props with minor damage sent to the original "prop manufacture" in FL. Came back like new and gained about 3 knots on speed at WOT). Cost for prop repair and shiping abot $300 per prop, glad we sent to OEM prop place as they know hat they were doing! Good luck!

I'd think twice about going stainless.
My prior boat had a Volvo 7.4 litre with a B3 duoprop set. The aluminum propellers give so that other components (like gears, shafts, bearings, etc.) aren't damaged in the event you hit something - like the bottom, debris, etc. They are "sacrificial" to an extent. If the aluminum propeller did not give when you hit something all of that energy would be transferred to (and damage) other critical components.
There's a place on the Miami River named Anchor Miami Propeller. They fixed my dinged B3 set a few times over the years. The stock pitch caused some cavitation, so they dropped it an inch for me. All was good. A stainless set might have cost me as much to buy as did the stock aluminum set with a few repairs.
You'll drop a lot of coin for those stainless duoprops and they may not necessarily be the best for your particular application. Give it some thought and then decide.

It’s a good point on aluminum props take the shock of you hit something. We had a Crownline with a Merc Bravo 3 that was stainless. I preferred stainless as they give a little better performance so I guess it depends on risk tolerance based performance.

Agree, stay SS props and check if you have bent/damaged the prop shafts/gears as well! Not sure I agree that with aluminum props that that is like a fuse to protect your whole driveline? Also, SS props more efficient and can take a little banging and not bend/break.

I am not sure I would move away from Stainless Props, I have always good luck with them but we always boat in deep water.
I have sent a set of props to Admiral Propeller in St Petersburgh Florida.

With your props damaged as severely as you indicated I would have a mechanic check the radial runout on the shafts before going any farther. If bent shafts just replacing/fixing the props and replacing will cause you more sever problems in the future.
