I just wanted to share that after contacting Kohler due to persistent vapor lock issues in my unit due to the heat in my SC35 ER , they recommended to install a ventilation kit in my Sound Shield. Kit Pn is. GM99175 and it includes a new top lid with a fan that runs during genny operation and 20 min after unit is stopped. The front panel piece of the enclosure is replaced as well with a revised unit with more vents to promote the air flow created by the fan. Cable harness for a clean plug and play installation is included with the kit. Fan is located over the fuel rail so it removes heat specifically from that area.

Unfortunate that Kohler engineering didnt figure that out when they designed/tested/released for production that set that it might get hot and vapor lock? Also interesting that they stopped selling gasoline powered sets a few years ago? Also, just my thoughts= When you design a engine powered gen set and sell it with a "box" over it maybe check that it works when it is running and hot (especially in a engine room)? Last question = Is the fan pulling in air from the hot engine room or sucking it out of the box? On our non boxed in Westerbeke 7.0 kW set both engine room vent fans turn on automatically, never a vapor lock problem. How much did that engineering after thought cooling kit cost you? Unfortunate it didt start doing this until gen set was out of warranty.

Hi Gofast.. The fan pulls air put of the genny enclosure , i talked to Kohler service manager directly (after i sent a letter informing of the issues i had ) and his opinion was that it was a Regal design issue. I know that some Sc35 owners had to add more fans in the ER due to vapor lock issues with the mains. (I fortunately never had problems with the VP 300 5.7 ). Despite being out of warranty Kohler paid for the kit and the labor of the installation. Therefore i consider myself lucky and its good that Kohler was concerned about a customer. (I explained in my letter that this was my 2nd boat with a Gas powered Kohler and that the previous unit had been great).
