Things getting slow, even down south. We have shut off and drained all fresh water on boat, turned on breaker for engine room auto heater, put Sta-Bil in fuel tanks then ran both propulsion engines and gen set to get it into their systems, turned on aft HVAC to heat (50F) and maybe this weekend put up canvas. Found some good (non chlorine) fresh water tank anti microbiological treatment (on Amazon) that wont effect the rubber parts in system or leave taste/smell in the future. These fresh water on board tanks just dont get flushed often enough and after 20 years (the boat, not the water in the tank) gets a little funny! installed a in line charcoal filter to ice maker on bridge deck, ice is ok for cocktails but not sure it kills any other stuff in the water?
Pre Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

I've been in storage for the last 6 weeks as well. Can't wait for early spring. I plan on dropping the boat in the water in March and bringing it back down to the Jersey shore. Next year, it will stay in the water until the end of November. I could have leveraged it for at least a ride or some fishing over the last 6 weeks for sure. There have been several days of 60 plus degree nice boating days we've experienced down here in south jersey.

W really love our 20 year old 4160. great cruiser for large inland lake (not great lakes!) As boat on fresh water since new, under a roofed wet dock year round, shore power keeping everything "alive" and a lot of self service/maintenance, repair/replace multiple things still like a brand new vessel. Guess being a retired (14 years now) M.E. and not much else to do find it a "hobby" helping my son keep her in great condition! All you guys stay safe and looks like we will all get the vaccine soon

You guys 'down south' are lucky to have a long boating season. In the northeast, our Regal gets launched mid June and hauled late Sept. for a 3 month season. We certainly look forward to the season like the rest of you, and with Covid restrictions our Regal was a home-away-from-home for the summer, the other months spent in our heated 'boathouse' where the 'to-do list is worked on. Eastern Canada has escaped the worst of the pandemic, and Prince Edward Island has only had a total of 90 confirmed cases with 15 active, no hospitalizations and no deaths...very fortunate. My winter projects include insulating the inside of the hydraulic engine lift, fixing the guest cabin 'pocket doors', and tidying up some wiring from last season. I would love to upgrade the Bennett trim tabs with the new 'Bennett Autotrim Pro' but access to the port trim tab may prove too difficult to add the wiring (Genset in front). One aggravation with Regal ownership is the poor access for maintenance. I enjoy keeping up with you and have learned a great deal about my 'new to me 4460'. Happy and safe holidays to all. David

Ya, keep that 4460 healthy and maintained! I haven't seen a better layout vessel as ours, just a little old looking interior( but who sees the inside? If your interested I can send you a word doc with everything we have done since purchasing in 2014. Firly detailed, remember I am a retired M.E. with not much else to do. Was in R+D with several engine companies and later in large bore diesel/gaseous fueled engine sales engineering, sets up to 5 MW gaseous an diesel fueled. .

GoFast,
I mentioned this in an earlier post when I introduced myself, but my boating needs changed. Sorry about the longish post again also.
However, I used to spend a lot of time on the Chesapeake Bay, staying out on the water overnight, or traveling to various waterside towns and staying for the weekend or whatever. Loved that boating but I've done that in the Chesapeake Bay for pretty much my whole life. I love it down there, but I live almost 2 hours away from the boat and it was a situation that I was only able to use the boat on the weekends or during vacation.
About 3 years ago, we started renting a place at the South Jersey shore near Cape May for the summer season and with that I had my 22 footer down there with me all summer. Used it all the time, since I had the ability to work from home during those summers. I was running the boat 3 or 7 days a week and loving it. During those summers the 4460 sat at our Marina on the Chesapeake's Sassasfras River collecting dust and bird droppings and spiders and such. I kept having a company clean it weekly but it was an expensive toy to be sitting down there for the prime part of the season. We did use it in the spring and fall, but not enough to justify keeping her.
At the end of this summer we bought a place at the Jersey Shore, just a condo, but something that I can retire to eventually. Entire family can come down and stay at the condo and we can use that's here all the time since it's 10 minutes away from the condo.
My 22 footer is also an I/O and I/Os and salt water are not a great combination. Not wanting to destroy my 22 in Salt water and not wanting to waste anymore money maintaining my 4460 I only used 4 to 6 weekends a year, I traded the 4460 in on the 33 OBX. Great boat for the salt water due to the outboards. I can run it to the Chesapeake Bay if I want to, my wife and I can stay overnight on her if we are in a pinch or want to do a long run to St. Michaels on the Chesapeake for the weekend, but she's the perfect boat for the Jersey shore. Deep Vee to run the ocean swells, outboards for the saltwater and plenty of space to take the entire family to the sandbar or anchor out spots down here. Also the cabin works perfectly when we are out down here as a nap spot for my grand children or a changing spot for someone.
Do I miss the 4460, yes sometimes, do I sometimes want a bigger cabin on the 33 OBX, yes sometimes, but for right now it's a great boat for what my boating is now.
By the way if someone is looking for a decent 4460 that was in great shape, it's still available at AM/PM Marine in Pasadena MD. While the overall boat has 1600 hours on her, the starboard engine is a brand new long block and many of the other parts on that engine are new as well. The Port engine had a complete top end rebuild just before the last season I owned her. At the time the mechanics looked at the bottom end and said it was in perfect condition so no need for the new longblock which I was considering. The IPS units have had all their upgrades and now are basically IPS B or C units. She also had a Joystick and is a breeze to dock and manage around the docks. The only issue the boat had was the fading on some of the interior hardwood, but it wasn't readily noticeable since it was mostly on the pocket doors. I did many upgrades on that boat including Electric Grill, all Chain Rode, New Cockpit Fridge, all new black water piping, upgraded faucets and shower heads everywhere except the cockpit sink, not to mention the upgrades on the engines. Many folks said the boat looked brand new when I was maintaining it. I have no skin in the game on it any longer but I think AMPM has it down to something like $180k right now and you could probably steal it for 10 to 20k less than that.

Thanks Tom (now I know your first name , very interesting read on your not really long post, you have some great ideas about your boating and location stuff! Surprised you had so much work done on the engines on the 4460? Diesel or guessing gas? I was born in Irvington in 1948, but parents moved from NJ to WI when I was 6 months old so dont know much about Jersey anymore. Got to love the lake here in GA, the low taxes (property) and not having to pull out to the hard ever. Unfortunately, Lake Lanier, so close to the ATL, the south end of the lake is really pricey for homes and marina covered docks, but, well worth it based on the tax/ COL stuff. Good luck and Happy Holidays to you and family and all other fellow Regal owners on this forum!

Thanks Gofast, the engines in the 4460 are Diesel D6 Volvos. I think I had the issue on the starboard engine because the previous owner ended up having his guys, he owned a construction company, change the oil in both engines the winter before I purchased her and they overfilled the starboard one. At least that is what the Volvo tech who inspected the engine after my first year with her said. It was running pretty much ok but started having a knock that clearly wasn't proper. I had them do another oil analysis after the first season, as well as a scope check on the cylinders and they found warping issues in cylinders 1 and 6. So I decided it would be cheaper to just install a new long block. The port engine, 3 years later started to eat a bit of antifreeze and when we dug into that one, it became clear I needed to rebuild the top end. Both engines ran great the last two seasons.

Thanks! Sorry to hear about possible overfill on lube oil! My experience with this situation is two items =One it will allow the crankshaft counterweights to "flail" the oil and cause foaming, which in turn, can cause cavitation and intermittent loss of oil pressure thru the oil pump pickup tube (may or may not show up on oil PSI gage or low oil pressure switch ). Second, "wooping all that oil around in the crankcase will cause the oil to over heat, and you dont have gauges that indicate over heating lube oil (on you size engine), we did have oil temp sensors on engines over about 1000 HP, but, a lot of $ engines at those ratings! ! Good luck and sorry you had to go through all that cost and aggravation with the engines. Last and final question = Did you have a full survey for both value and mechanical condition before purchasing vessel So many friend just bought boats and then found out after taking delivery a bunch of expensive problems that weren't disclosed (or no maintenance records, questions asked, etc.) as you normally get when buying a house?
