Hello - newbie to the forum here. We have become smitten with the 4260 Commodore and are considering a few that will need to be shipped from east coast to west coast. A couple of question to ask:
1. Are there any shipper recommendations? I've talked with a few and prices seem to be all over the place, as well as ability 2. Has anyone shipped a 4260? If so, can you help with what the loaded height is?
Thanks in advance for the help!

We used C&J Transport to ship our 4460 from Charleston to Gunterville in Alabama. $6.5k. Very pleased. Www.candjtransport.comLike you we asked for a bunch of quotes from Websites etc. most refused to move it. These guys gave a legit quote, picked it up on time and delivered it with no issues.

Just a little advice before you buy. As most likely salt water vessel highly recommend you get a full survey, value and mechanical/sea trial. We paid about $800 for the full course but some dock mates just bought theirs, had shipped from salt water to fresh water lake here in GA, then the problems started! HVAC not functioning (sea water line/condenser fully plugged with barnacles), gen set not functioning, wont start and when it did the same problem with sea water line/heat exchanger, two of 4X water cooled exhaust manifolds leaking into engine room, one just starting to leak into engine combustion chamber but that got caught when water discovered in engine room, one starting battery and house battery dead, etc.! Guess if you going from salt water to salt water still recommend the full survey! Good luck!

We bought our 2007 4460,that was docked in Charleston. We paid a surveyor and a merc mechanic for full seal trials, haul the boat and inspect, compression tests, pull all the motor history, etc . It was about $2500 and he found a number of things, mostly because the boat wasn’t used much if at all. We used part of what he found to negotiate the price down so the survey ended up almost free, plus it gave us a good list to give to the marina service department. Our insurance company also required a survey.

$2500 seems a little high but great detailed survey, glad you got it back on price of vessel! So, you got the survey cost back but now would be interesting to know what the marina repairs will cost? Any specifics on the "number of things" ? Yes, insurance on that size/value vessel will usually require a survey to just quote coverage, same with us. When son bought vessel the seller just had everything major fixed and still sold at a reduced price from original asking. But seems like boat market really hot now, don't know why, probably because spring is just round the corner ?

Thanks to all for chiming in. hawker63, I saw your post on the move and commented there. My challenge with shipping is of course being across the country. I need to plan a trip to be there during survey & sea trial, then another for load and ship out. I was quoted $17-20k for the transport, which lines up with the research I've done on what other people have paid. The biggest cost drivers are: load height (need to be less than 13'6") and width. Thanks again to everyone for the comments! Not sure if I'll wait for a local boat or try shipping....

Wondering if you couldn't find a equivalent vessel on the west coast, pay $15 k more for it (but no shipping charge) after survey just sail it to you dock, and eliminate two plane rides, hotel, rental car, etc.? I think you will love the 4260 (hard top?).
