Looking to buy my first regal 2760. Trying to decide between 2000 with merc 4.3 and alphas or 2004 volvo 4.3 with duo props. Is there a big difference? Pricing is about 15k apart

Preface by saying I'm a Merc guy, BUT...given only those 2 choices, I'd go VP due to the dual prop & age. Is the HP the same, or is the Merc carb'd & the VP EFI? (That said, I had twin Merc 4.3 carbed with Alphas and they were bullet proof! However; they were twins, nullifying the need for dual props.)

How many hours on engines and any service records? Also, get full mechanical survey before signing check !

I would go with the Volvo but you’ll still want to find out a few things.
Is the volvo a Gi (200hp) or a Gxi 225 hp model? Is the Merc carbed or fuel injected Which boat is in better condition overall? Is either boat missing a must have option? How many hours on each boat?
The Volvos are going to shift much smoother than the Alphas which can be very noticeable while docking
Also, the 2004 should be a 2860 model

I would go with the Volvo and DP. The 2760's can have difficulty getting on plane without the dual props with the twins when guests on board in the back. My carbed 4.3 merc's with Bravo III have no issues with that.

It's been my experience over the years that VP builds an out drive that is very good and almost indestructible. Also in those years the VP product is easier to work on and maintain. One more thing If the 2004 VP has SX drives on it, it can de up graded to Duo-prop S-M by changing the Lower units only(I'm currently doing this with my 2000 2760) The only down side is VP parts tend to be a little more expensive

I've had both and they both have their challenges and some level of dependability. However, I will say that having a DuoProp setup over not having that would be my recommendation. Both boats I own now have only single spinning props. My 22 Bryant with an Alpha Merc and my 33 OBX with twin Yamaha's. I've had two duo prop boats, my 322 Monterey with Volvo's and my 4460 Regal with IPS 500s. The DuoProp boats are both more efficient and do better cruising with lower HP engines.

Having owned both Merc and Volvo, go with the Volvo.
