We purchased a 2000 Commodore 2960 at the end of September. Overall, the boat is in great shape and was well maintained by the previous owners. As with anything, there are little things that need to be addressed. For us, one of those is the gauge for the waste tank. When I first looked at it, there were no lights illuminated. I checked the fuse and it was blown. I replaced the fuse and it lit up for a few minutes but I wasn't sure about the level readings. Shortly after, the fuse blew again. Obviously, there is a problem. Since accessing the gauge requires removing one of the breaker panels, I'd rather only dig into once. Anyone else ever had a problem with this gauge?

Everyone has a problem with this gauge. They're pretty notorious for failing.
SCAD makes an external sensor that works on plastic tanks, I've been eyeing it but i haven't pulled the trigger on it yet.

I don't remember the brand but I looked at some external sensors and a replacement gauge. The gauge I looked at is from Blue Sea Systems but I didn't bookmark the sensors. Thanks for the info. Glad to know I'm not the only one with issues.

I know it's not the answer you're looking for, but start logging how many people you have on board and for how long, how many trips to the head.. With just a little bit of data you'll be able to pretty accurately predict how many flushes the tank handles. For us living on it we'd get 5-6 days with 3-4 onboard. Also if you're going to be away for an extended period of time make sure you pump it. Bad things happen if you don't. Guess how I know.  |
