My 2007 4060 is powered by twin gasoline Volvo Penta 8.1 GXi (420 HP) engines with V-Drives. I do not have a fuel flow gauge and know there are many variables that can affect fuel consumption. That said is there a specific RPM or RPM range that yields the highest fuel efficiency?

If it was possible to obtain a torque curve plot with BSFC ( brake specific fuel consumption) vs. engine RPM on these engines (I also have VP 8.1 GSI-I) your would want to run at the peak torque speed but that is a function of the prop curve which means you cant be at peak torque other than when at WOT. Gets complicated here but maybe try to find a boat test site which shows fuel consumption vs. vessel speed and go from there. In our case we run at about 3700 RPM (after up on plane) vs. the WOT RPM of 4100>. Just get her on plane at WOT and then back down about 300/400 RPM while still staying on plane>. That is as close as I can get you on your question. Sorry

That said is there a specific RPM or RPM range that yields the highest fuel efficiency? I've also got twin 8.1 GXI's in my 2005 3560. I just did an electronics upgrade and discovered that the fuel flow data is there coming from the engines even if there wasn't a gauge. You'll just need to install engine gateways, which connect to the 10 pin diagnostic port of the engines. Then for me to a NMEA 2000 network and then a display (as an aside, gives you access to lots of other data and DTC's too). Was well worth it for me. In my case I used the Yacht Devices YDEG-04 gateway. Then, no more guessing, you'll have real time access to what you're looking for.
