This component sits between the battery switch and the breaker panel on my 2800. What the heck does this do?

I believe that allows for your second battery to be charged by your charger when connected to shore power. this is from an online listing for the unit you have.

Agree, looks like a relay control that sends house battery charging current to second (house) battery if it needs charging in addition to your propulsion engine(s) ? In our case, our Charles house battery charger has 3 individual outputs which take care of both engine starting batteries as well as the BCI Group AGM house battery independently. Seems like your vessel mounted shore power charger only has one output and this unit determines if your second battery needs to be connected (charged) in addition to engine starting batteries?

go fast, I had the same problem the other day during my posting. I used 8-D to communicate the battery instead of that keeps changing to the big smily Emoji!

This is a voltage controlled relay. It will connect the batteries together to allow both to be charged at times when your engines are running to allow the alternator to charge both without manual intervention. It works because the voltage is higher when the engine is running (or a battery charger is on, although some battery chargers may have multiple outputs to handle more than one battery).
Not every boat uses this particular type of device, there are other technologies that help with this issue. Each type has their own unique advantages and disadvantages.

LOL. I did that one on purpose! What I found that worked consistently was 8-D. Oh well.

Ya, guess we all have bigger problems to contend with than a BCI eight Dee battery turning into a emoji?
