Who has a davit and dinghy recommendation for a 4460? I don't have one currently and have concerns but would like to get one ...
True story: back when I had a 3060, I met a guy (in a local marina) who had a 4460, very well kept. He was a Seattle Ferry captain and clearly took very, very good care of his yacht. He told me (as best I can recall now) that he had put a davit (he told me specifically but I forget now as this was many years ago) on the swimstep and had a dinghy attached, but one day when running in a heavy swell, after running down the backside of a wave, then starting up the front of the next one, the swimstep almost completely sheered off with the weight of the dinghy ... he was able to nurse the boat back to shore (and still somehow was able to keep his dinghy) but the repairs were extensive as it tore part of the transom besides major damage to the swimstep itself. He ultimately had a local shop custom fabricate some (roughly) 3" steel supports that were added below the swimstep (mounted to the transom) to help give proper support for a dinghy. His final setup was great, but only after 10s of 1000s of $. So, I don't 'want to be like him.' Does anyone have any tried and true davit and dinghy systems they found to work on the OEM/stock swimstep or alternative?

I have a AB fiberglass bottom rib (10’-2”) with Yamaha 20 hp on swim platform. I use the tender roller davit system and install a power winch in aft locker to pull it up. Works like a charm.

dinghy on a 44' vessel? Why? Swim platform isn't made to hold that kind of weight especially in rough seas? Assume you dont dock at a marina slip and are tied of to a buoy somewhere in a bay in order to need a dingy? Not sure of the steel reinforcing braces as fix as the platform is not made to hold that weight regardless of the supports added?

Weight limit on my platform was 500 lbs but the new 33X limit is 1000lbs. I had an inflatable dingy with 6hp motor where the total weight was under 200 lbs. we used it often. Only issue was on the 32X it was a bit more sluggish in terms of performance.

I use my dinghy all the the time. You should try to do some boating in Newport R.I or Block island, or Mystic CT. You would understand why you want a dinghy on a 44’ vessel. I’ve been in some pretty heavy seas and have no problem with dinghy on platform.

Thanks for clarification, just happy to not need a dingy or have to pull out 22,000 vessel every winter. Just commented on the weight on the swim platform not meant to hold the weight of a dingy? dpill, have no idea of what vessel you have as you dont indicate it in your post or salutation ! So, again, what is your vessel, and where do you dock? Assume you knew my location (a lake in GA) as it is in my salutation? Thanks!

I have the dinghy ramp on my 4260. 10ft apex with a 15hp Mercury. We bought a 4-1 sailing block for the bow and stern lines when putting in on the platform. Super easy. One hand. If I had to do over, I would probably buy the aluminum highfield or AB with a Eurohelm and H3O Davit system. But our dinghy ramp has worked well for us. These pictures were taken in Green Turtle, Bahamas. 200 miles from our home. 1000 miles total on this trip, absolutely no issues at all. 1 of many crossings with a dinghy on the platfrom, 4-6ft seas.

I assume by now you have purchased your set up but if you haven't here is a suggestion. I have the "Trick Davit" system on my 4060. It elevates the tender by about 6-8" which is good as my platform sits low. Super easy to pull the dinghy up. The regals run bow high so keeping the weight down was super important to me but I needed a ridged hull. I landed on a Walker Bay RIB 10.5' along with a Tihatsu 15hp tiller with electric start. I am under 200LBS total and can pull her on and off by myself with no issues. I also can have 5 people in the tender with gear and still get on plane.

www.dinghydavits.com/I used the under mount extended davit...Its like a trailer hitch so you can easily remove it and no hardware on the top of the swim platform. works great. My dinghy weighs 262 lbs with full tank of fuel. My platform underside is 12" above the waterline.

I appreciate the suggestions and am still looking at this thread. I am likely to buy the dinghy soon, and thus a davit system, but haven't yet.

I've been using a set of St.Claire davits for a couple of years now. We started with an inflatable bottom dinghy and later bought an aluminum bottom Zodiac. These work well and store easily when not is use. Price wise they are great. Also our swimplatform sits a little higher off the water then other boats I've seen and these really help us get the dinghy up and on. www.stclairdavits.com/
