I recently purchased a 1991 Commodore 360 and have not owned a boat with an onboard generator before. I have experienced and worked through (repaired) some other issues/problems with this boat since purchasing a few months back and it has now caused me to question the sea water cooling operation of of my QuickSilver 7.5kw genset....though the same may apply to ANY onboard genset operation as well.
When the generator motor is running, should it be considered "normal" that the sea water flowing out of the waterline outlet to exit that outlet in a steady flow or stream? On my boat the water flow seems to "gush, gush, gush" (so to say)....probably at the rate of one "gush" every second or two (at the most). Otherwise, I'm wondering if the sea water impeller should be replaced soon. The surveyor did not offer any comment on this being abnormal when he inspected the boat prior to purchase but I am a greater proponent of preventative maintenance than waiting for something to fail before giving it attention.
TIA...
JJ

My Genset pulsate like yours.....The muffler seams to hold a lot of water.

I'm pretty sure you gene is working normally. The impeller being gone or damaged would result in no water coming through at all. The Gush Gush Gush is pretty normal with most genes.
