Hi Everyone,
My wife and I are headed to demo a Regal LS2 and a 2300 on Friday. After doing a ton of research we've narrowed it down to Regal and Cobalt but primarily leaning towards Regal based on quality, design, value, etc. Having spoken to the salesperson on a few occasion, they've been throwing discounted numbers my way of around <20%. Given that most manufacturers are having a pretty good year thus far, I am curious how much more wiggle room there is on these boats. Being in sales myself, and during a sellers market, there has to be a bit more on the back end.
Some of the discounted numbers were between 16-20%.
Has anyone recently purchased a new Regal? I would have to purchase a new trailer, which I was quoted around $4,500-$5k for as well. I've only really negotiated on cars before so any insight is helpful if I should focus on additional accessories, the boat price itself, or the trailer, etc.
Thanks!

I have purchased (ordered) two new Regals both of which we were not during a sellers market. What I would suggest is work the dealer best you can and when you feel that won't go any lower etc. then ask for dealer type of items. For example, in the NE, with one boat I ordered I got the first winter storage free. I know someone else who got 50% winter storage and a large $$ credit towards service etc. There are those type of items that cost the dealer very little but can save you a lot.
I would definitely consider the trailer as part of the overall package in terms of discounts etc.

Same dealer for both boats? Nothing to trade in? Is 20% off list price? Assume you want (need) a trailer as you dont stay wet docked year round? Where are you located? I think both vessels are great but biased toward the Regal What engines(s) and what HP ratings of each vessel (also assume a single engine)? Assume I/O's? Best time of year is to buy in fall, sell in spring. Let us know above answers to better advise yu and good luck!

I appreciate the prompt response...I am very much leaning towards Regal at this point because the looks and value for the money. While granted the Cobalt is a nice boat, I can't see myself spending another 10k for essentially the same features. Quite frankly, I actually think the Regal looks better and is a bit more modernized than the Cobalt. I digress... The 2 Regal boats I am looking at are the 2300(being discontinued and replaced by the LS4 apparently) and the LS2 at the moment - will demo both on Friday at the same dealer to figure out which suits us better. 20% is off of the list price from the Manufacturer. Sales person mentioning willingness to apply the discount towards a custom ordered boat as well if we don't like whats on the lot. I do need a trailer because I will be keeping the boat close by at a storage facility that is enclosed and temp regulated. Unfortunately here in Raleigh, there is a pretty significant wait time (4years apparently) for Dry docking the boat at the Marina. I am also on the waiting list at Kerr Lake, which sounds like might be a quicker turn around, perhaps in the next season or 2. I have not considered a wet docking the boat because of the on going maintenance and cleaning of the vessel that seems more involved than Dry storage, especially with an I/O motor. Plus I have the option of going to specific Lakes in the Raleigh Area, or even head towards Wilmington, etc. If you can't tell...my first foray into boating and I may quickly resign to 1 single lake for the entire ownership of vessel. The engine I am particularly interested in is the Volvo Penta I/O with about 280hp. The dealer out of Charlotte has primarily been selling boats with that option and I've heard good things but I am sure there are plenty experiences, good and bad, between Mercs and Pentas.

The cobalt is heavier and will ride more planted to the water. The regal is lighter and will be more fuel efficient. The cobalt will handle chop and building seas better by using the weight advantage and continuous hull vs ventilated hull. Both will depreciate by 20% the minute you drive off the lot.
With it being a very very very hot seller market, I’d wait till December. You’d be surprised on the factory rebates or dealer incentives to move inventory.
If money is no object, pound for pound, the cobalt. If you are asking for how much discount you can get, wait till December and it will be another 10% over whatever you are getting now.
Find out if the dealer is part of one water marine or Brunswick group of dealers. Both of those are public companies and numbers matter come December and end of year reporting.

Hi Omar - thanks for the response. Having looked at the weight in the segment that is within my budget...the LS2 from Regal, CS23 and CS 22 from Cobalt, the Regal appears to be the heavier boat tipping the scale at around 3,800lbs. Even heavier than the 1 foot longer CS23 from Cobalt which appears around 3,700 dry weight. Once you get into the R3 Line, the cobalt gains about 7-800lbs on the Regal. The R seems to be over 6 figures once equipped properly, probably 30k more than the Regal that I am looking at. Good thinking on waiting it out a bit longer and verifying if they are part of group of dealers in that area. It seems odd that even during a sellers market they are offering 18% off of MSRP, that is typically driven by some sort of factory incentive with more profit being held on the back end. Or at least that's my experience shopping for cars in the luxury segment.

Agree with omarf4 ,most of your boating season (where ever your located) is just about over, wait unti Dec/Jan and then negotiate price! You dont have a boat to trade and no slip fees to pay, that is the best bargaining condition for a new vessel? Or, look for a 1-2 year old vessel still under factory warranty? Those folks are wanting to get rid of their boat to not have to pay for winterizing or storage over winter! good luck!

I just ordered a 2021 Regal LS6 and was able to get 24.13% off MSRP. The dealer is in New Hampshire. Essentially all the options I wanted were no charge.
