We get 28 knots and for your 10 mile cruises on fresh water lake go with the 4460 gassers. The VP 8.1's are Bullitt proof if you take care of them. We have 1000 hours on ours and nothing but oil and filter changes, sea water impellers, batteries! Manifolds and risers still fine! Get a full survey!!! That's my trend of thought as well, gofast. Gassers are cheaper to maintain If taken care properly, and for my needs it would be plenty. I would love to have diesel, but for the price difference simply it is not an option at this time.

Well, after 40+ years in the industrial/marine diesel engine business (all with OEM's, early on engineering, later sales/application engineering) I feel bad to suggest you go with the gassers, but that is all you need especially if you can get a 4160 gas vs 38xx with diesels Good luck and get a full survey!! We bought a 2001 4160 with the 8.1GSiI-A's , 420 HP each, longest trip on our lake about 15 miles ! Good luck with whatever your decision is!

Good luck with whatever your decision is! Thank you, Gofast! I am going to see her this week. I am excited and hope everything works out for the best (whatever that is). Sure is a good $$ amount, but I hope it will create lifetime memories....By that I mean GOOD ONES!

Everyone has differing opinions but gas in a 30,000 lb boat seems like a heavy strain. Diesels are made for big heavy loads. I have the 4060 with IPS500s. we cruise at 33mph @ 3150RPM and get 1.1-1.2 mpg. We looked also at the 4460 without pods and chose to go with the 4060. Same number of Staterooms and Heads with much better performance. You do lose a little elbow room in the cockpit and salon. That being said the maintenance on the pod drives is more and if they haven't had seals updated that will be something inevitable in time.
