Just called Garmin. You were right. Extremely helpful. The 8622 chart plotter comes with an external GPS antenna (24XD) mounted on roof and will share data with Garmin autopilot.

to me you still have time to sort this out and get what you want on your 2022 36 XO. Regal is flexible with putting what you want on the boat, but they are expensive with those types of options. Getting a front wash down spigot on my 33 OBX was exceedingly expensive for what it was.

I placed my order in November and it's out of the mold now and into assembly. Should be splashed in early April. Typically the autopilot runs off a precision compass. Not GPS. It's more concerned about course and heading. When combined with the chartplotter it captures the location. Technically you don't need a chartplotter or GPS to have an auto pilot. I've been running a Grady White with Simrad auto pilot for years. There was just more advancement with the EX and wish this will be installed. Hate to pay for the the Garmin auto pilot (which I did) when it was simpler to have the EX. Stay tuned tomorrow.

please keep us updated tmuller. I probably spent 30 min on the phone with Garmin so I have a decent understanding of how things work. The Garmin autopilot you will be receiving is the Reactor 40 steer-by-wire system with Yamaha gateway. You didn't say it but I'm assuming you have the twin Yamaha 425's (since I believe the 350's are no longer offered but can't confirm that) with digital electronic steering. If you had the 350's I think it's basically the same electronics but includes a hydraulic controller as well. The autopilot has a highly accurate "compass" in the course correction unit (CCU) which communicates to both the chart plotter as well as the engine through the Yamaha gateway device. The autopilot will also be tied into the GPS mounted unit as well to track position of the boat. The Helm Master EX just replaces the Garmin autopilot. It might not be as good or it might be better. To me the more important aspect would be does the new joystick controller software offer better precision control of the twin motors? Maybe, probably? I think you will be extremely happy with the Helm Master and Garmin autopilot though . . . Could you do me a favor? While you are at the factory can you please ask them where they mount the Garmin autopilot course control unit (CCU) on the 36 XO? The Yamaha gateway get's mounted behind the chart plotter but not sure about the CCU. And of course we would all like to see pictures of your new boat. Maybe you could start a new thread and post a ton of pictures!

Do you recall how much extra it was for the 33 OBX? I was wondering if it was something only the factory could do or maybe the dealer? Thanks

Yes I got them down with the help of my dealer from around $2000 to do it at the factory with regal pricing to $1450. Still very expensive but as you said, a requirement for anchoring especially on the Chesapeake Bay. Although I have to use it down at the Jersey Shore as well for some areas. Did the 36 XO not come with a front wash down as an option? A boat that size always needs one.

Nope there is no wash down as an option on the 36. Is this something that can only be done at the factory? Do you have any pics of your custom installation you can post? I’d love to see what it looks like.

Yes I'm pretty sure it can only be done at the factory due to trying to fish a pex tube all the way to the bow after the top and bottom parts of the boat are connected at the factory. If you want it, I would ask for it now. I pushed for it due to the anchor spots on the Chesapeake being so muddy.
There is a potential it could be easier for you after the fact since you have a head forward and probably more room below the front part of the bow since your boat isn't a bow rider, but the 36 does have a wall way and some seating up there so I think it would be cheaper overall to have it done at the factory now.

Great day at Regal. No HelmMaster EX yet. That EX autopilot is not even close to the Garmin version. Garmin is a full route system. Basically a heading setting is what they say and EX. Here's a shot of a mating. Attachments:

Here's a shot of a mating. That is what I was guessing so that Garmin autopilot should make you very happy!!!!! . . . I hope you took hundreds of pictures. Is your color scheme Grey/Black bootstripe /Graphite hull bottom? What else did you learn? Maybe you could start a new Regal build update thread? This is soooooo exciting!

That's not my hull. Mine is out of mold and into cut. I just wanted to share a cool picture of mating.
This boat is unusual as in they wanted the black bootstrap and then bottom paint below that.
Factory is at full speed. Amazing team doing all it takes to get boats out.

Here's the spray tank. Every 36XO is sprayed with water (rain) for 4 hours to be sure no leaks.

I have learned, that at least on some boats (like the 36XO), Regal will be offering the Helm Master EX with Joystick control as standard equipment starting in 2022.
