I have a 2002 Commodore 2765 with twin VP 4.3,s. I was getting it ready to put in yesterday and all was good but then I noticed that the port engine would not go in fwd or reverse. The button on the side of the throttle control had no resistance when I tried to push it. Not sure the correct term but when pushed this disengages the transmission and just allows throttle operation usually when starting. The problem must be in the throttle control right?? I couldn’t find an IPC breakdown showing if there is some type of rod or spring inside. I popped off the button cover and there is a white plastic piece with a short stem going into a larger metal nut. The white part comes out so it is not connected to anything. Any ideas on what is wrong? Thanks in advance..

A little more information on this. I dug into it a little more today. The button on the side has a white plastic rod that pushes against a “ plunger” which must disengage the transmission linkage when pushed. It appears this plunger is sticking intermittently. Surprised no one else on the forum has experienced this. Anyway I lubricated it the best I could. Would anyone know how I can view an IPC on this assembly? It is a dual Volvo Penta throttle control with trim switches on the port throttle lever. I couldn’t locate a part number anywhere.

Go to VP parts web site, input serial numbers or whatever, and scroll to page on throttle control for exploded view of throttle control. Might help?

Hi Gordon, I have the same problem on my Regal 32 express here in Panama. Part number (Twin engine control box from Volvo Penta) is 3849409 (or 3849408 without the power trim switches). I am trying to replace the whole control box but it seems that this part has been discontinued and very difficult to find. Did you manage to find a solution?
