I'm curious if anyone has a method to reduce the exhaust note on the 8.1 VP V-drives. I'm all for hearing those big blocks thumping at idle, but when under way they are defining! Sure would be nice to not have to yell over them...
The current lift mufflers are original to the 2004 boat, I'm sure of it. Do they "wear out" and get louder over time? Are there better options? Not sure I have enough room for a secondary inline after the existing cans.
Thanks for the help!

I can't help but I would love to know a solution as well. They certainly are loud and could stand to be muffled without choking them down.

Ours are a little loud when first starting engines until cooling water gets into exhaust piping and mufflers. After that, no problems. mufflers are 20 years old like engines/vessel. Stereo will overtake noise at sea Nothing I know of that will wear out in mufflers? Hopefully all SS construction, especially in salt water?

I am in the process of installing a 43 X 79 inch sheet of 1 inch marine insulation on the underside of the engine hatch. In my case, the VP diesels make more noise than the gas engines on my old Express Cruiser. Hopefully the insulation will help reduce engine noise in the diesels. I will follow up with a 'pilot report' when in the water.

If diesels are turbocharged the turbo will reduce exhaust noise about 6-10 dBA but then turbo whine and still diesel knock in either case
