Out of the blue, my ELCI (Shore Power breaker) keeps popping if I turn on the AC or water heater. I plugged my neighbor's cord into my boat and the same issue happened, so pretty sure it isn't the cord. Anyone have any suggestions where to look nex?

Did you try plugging into a different receptacle?

Did you try plugging into a different receptacle? We had a problem with shore power breakers (at the shore power post on dock) . Also, aft 16k BTU aft AC unit came equipped with a 15 amp breaker from Regal and this salon breaker has tripped intermittently for a couple years. Finally took my AC current clamp on meter and checked the load during start up and running = Starting current 28 amps, running 16 amps! Replaced 15 amp breaker with a 30 amp (Blue Seas) breaker and no longer a problem! Interesting that the spec plate on the air con indicates a 30 amp breaker required but boat built with a 15 amp??? Also, the 30 amp/120 VAC shore power cable plug in to the dock box is warm after running AC for a couple of hours, asked marina to replace the receptacle as the plug is clean/free of corrosion, etc. Marina hasn't done anything now in 2 months!! Agree, plug your cord into a different neighboring shore power outlet for a few minutes, just make sure you not cutting off your dock mates fridger/AC etc or wait until he is there before doing this!

So the Regal mechanic showed up yesterday and we figured out that I had a damaged shore power ground which fried the ELCI. They ordered me a new one and we circumvented the ELCI to get everything working while we wait for the replacement. I grabbed a new shore power cord as well. These new electronic breakers are more trouble then they are worth IMO.

Our marina will if we can get them to spend any money! Also, or shore power breakers at the dock station are not GFI, nor our 120 VAC main breakers in the salon panel. Only GFI outlets are those scattered around the inside of the boat. They trip often and after first buying the boat in 2014 couldn't figure out why no power to the fwd 120 VAC berth outlets, then discovered a hidden GFI outlet under the stbd side of the bed platform (the part that sticks out from the box frame underneath! Still waiting for marina to replace one of the two 30 AMP dock connection breakers that intermittently trip during the week (when we aren't there) when the aft AC cycles!

In my experience the elci saved my bacon big time! This is what happened; overnighted in a Marina that for my surprise only had a 50 amps outlet; my SC35 only has 30 amps plugs.. well i realized about the issue around 9pm when nobody was around to lend me an adapter so i did something i shouldn't...i bent one of my plugs to make it fit in the 50amp plugs but just to get 110v (those carries 220v as well). Of course i made a mistake and sent 220v to the boat and the elci tripped and sacrificed before letting 220v pass to the rest of the boat. Lesson learned !! i carry an adapter now (after replacing the elci that costed around 170 bucks..).
Ps: at least after the mistake i managed to connect the boat and sleep with the Ac (despite of almost frying my ac accessories...)

Thumbs up! From memory only I believe a 50 AMP / 240 VAC single phase twist lock plug/receptacle has 4 prongs? Line/neutral/Line/ ground (or earth as the Brits say)? We have several dock mates that have a single 50 amp 240 vAC shore power cable and others (like us) have two 30 AMP 120 VAC receptacles. Most of the dock boxes have both. Who/where did you get the ELCI replaced, at the home dock or at the over night marina? Just curious, what did the single 50 amp to two 30 amp "Y" adaptor cost?

I bought the elci on line and replaced it myself. The adapter runs for around 100 dollars depending on the brands.

You indicated in a previous post = "So the Regal mechanic showed up yesterday and we figured out that I had a damaged shore power ground which fried the ELCI. They ordered me a new one and we circumvented the ELCI to get everything working while we wait for the replacement"? So Regal mechanic ordered one and you bought one as well? Assume you cancelled the order with the Regal mechanic and save a lot of $ by purchasing one on line? What did the ELCI cost on line vs. the Regal mechanic price?
