I am very close to closing on a 2006 3560 Commodore and just had the survey and the starboard engine compression results were borderline and want to solicit feedback. I have talked to a few mechanics about the results and while it is not a disaster or stop and walk away I am concerned that this could lead to up to $10,000 in repairs and the unknown is when. Starboard:
2: 150 psi 1: 150 psi
4: 150 psi 3: 125 psi
6: 165 psi 5: 140 psi
8: 175 psi 7: 155 psi I have put some ring free in the gas and we ran it for an hour and my mechanic will recheck the compression. Have any of you had similar situations and what was the outcome. Thanks.

On our 4160, 600 hours = PORT= Compression: 145-152 , STBD = Compression: 146-154 All cylinders should be within 5% of each other. Putting stuff in gas wont likely fix anything, suggest your get cylinder leak down test to determine if piston rings or valve faces /valve seats. 175 way too high, 125 way too low! Get oil sample from engines and send for analysis, will tell you what might be wearing. Is there records of maintenance done on engines? Get compression test re done and what were reading on port engine? Yes, could be $$$ problem depending on cause. Dont walk away but get tests and then make a counter offer! Rebuilt 8.1 VP engine $9400 + R+R. Get codes read from engine ECU to see if any overheat, low oil PSI, etc, that info will help diagnose other problems. Good luck!
