Hi everyone, new to this forum and can’t wait to pick all the experienced minds in here about an issue I’m having on my boat. Here’s the back story for this boat. It has been sitting for years in Florida ( dry docked) with minimal use. It’s a 2002 with 55.8 hrs on it. I know low hours aren’t great on older boats but I bought it and trailered it back up to Canada so it could finally get some use. I’ve spent the better part of 2 months going through all components updating electronics, wiring and so on, I had a high end repair shop go through the engine and give me a clean bill of health. I launched it a few weeks ago and it runs like a champ! I have a covered wet slip at a local marina so the boat is always ready to go. I came to check on it the other night and noticed a bunch of standing water in the bilge area. I pumped it out and then spent the next few days trying to find the leak. What I did find was a drip coming from what looks like the Y pipe for the exhaust where it bolts into the back of the Bravo 3. It’s a steady drip and not a stream of water but still has me concerned. From what I have read the only way to take y pipe off is to remove the engine from the boat. This would bring my season to a crashing halt. The season isn’t long up here and mechanics are swamped for the next 5-6 weeks with launch work not to mention the cost of pulling the engine.
My question to then group is,
1) is there any other way to get thy Y pipe off without pulling the motor ( 496 mag )
2) is there a way to temporarily bandaid the leak until end of season at which point I don’t mind pulling the motor and fixing the seal
3) had anyone ever sealed the joint from Y pipe to Stern drive from inside the exhaust tube? ( crazy thought I know but I’m trying anything )
Any and all advice is greatly appreciated on This and thank you in advance for the help!
Happy boating!
