I have a 2018 regal with the evc throttle. It's all digital and the trim up isn't working. The dealership reprogrammed it and it worked for a little and stopped working again. They said I need a whole new throttle and it's $3,400. Is there a work around this that anyone knows of before a drop some serious cash for a throttle.

I just last week had the throttle assembly replaced on my 2019 Regal 28 Express. It is under the Volvo Penta warranty until 2024 -- five years from purchase of the boat. Hopefully you have your warranty. You can contact Volvo Customer Service and they can tell you whether it would be covered under warranty based on when your boat was purchased. They are very responsive if you send them a web contact request, detailing what your problem is, and what has been done about it. My throttle handle had the rubberized coating flaking off and they replaced it very quickly, after the dealer submitted a warranty claim. Saved me, as you said, $3,000+ in parts plus programming costs.

Did you have the dealership check out the hydraulic pump for the trim? That can also be a problem.

Unfortunately I'm out of warranty and it's not the pump because I have another switch at the back of the boat for the trim and it works.

Unfortunately then, you are looking at a big bill for a replacement. Perhaps you can talk to a few authorized VP repair shops and see if you can get a break on pricing. My Regal dealer spec'd around 2 hours for the throttle handle replacement and programming. |

I found one on ebay for $1,700 but I need to look into getting it programed from volvo. My dealership said volvo has to program it for the specific engine and outdrive

My dealership said volvo has to program it for the specific engine and outdrive That is correct, and what I experienced last week with my own throttle replacemement under VP warranty (although through my Regal dealer).
Any authorized Volvo Penta service shop should be able to do this; you don't necessarily have to go to a Regal dealership. |

I saw the one on ebay but unfortunately I was waiting on my dealership to give me the part number to make sure it was the correct one and now it's sold. I just can't believe it's going to cost me $4,000 to replace the throttle after programming and install.

That's too bad about the eBay unit. Do you know the correct part number? Perhaps you can do a web search (or set up a standing eBay search) and find another one used.
I would contact Regal with questions like that (you have to provide your hull ID number). They always get back to you within 1 day, often sooner. I recently did this with regard to the original inline holding tank vent line filter.
I guess I would check with Volvo Customer Service to see if they can repair the throttle for you, or can refer you to someone who can. They are very responsive to emailed inquiries per their web site. I would probably also put the same request in with Regal Customer Service, to see if they could help you or point you in the right direction. One question -- does your throttle's "auto trim" feature work (bottom button, which should give you a green lamp when it's activated)? |

Another thing is I got it into calibration mode and the up trim started working. Could it be a software problem?
