I have a 2007 Mercruise 8.1l HO inboard. Starboard engines serpentine belt is slipping. Manual says I should get 1/2” of movement when pressed Belt is looser than that. I’ve ordered a new belt but may have to replace the tensioner. I can’t seem to find the part number on the internet for the tensioner assembly. Does anyone have a link or part number for it. All the other pulleys idler, tensioner, alternator) seem to spin freely so I don’t think it’s a bearing issue but belt and/or tensioner.

Have you tried relieving the tensioner pressure on the belt? My volvopenta tensioner has a 1/2" pry bar receptical . A pry bar inserted there is used to rotate the entire trnnsioner arm to slack the belt in order to replace it. Strong resistance to rotating it would indicate that its ok and your belt is streached out.

Update: ordered new belt, tensioner and idler pulley. The idler pulley that shipped to me was a little larger diameter than existing one. I tried using it but couldn’t get belt on. New tensioner and belt and everything ran fine. The water pump was too tight to turn by hand so I was worried I had to replace that but engine started fine and spun the pump.

If your water pump will not turn by hand, it needs to be replaced asap before it smokes your new belt.
