Hello all..I just purchased a New 2020 Regal 28 Express cruiser. This is my 1st boat and I'm very excited to join the boating community. And I was hoping you could share any Tips to look for with a new boat, as well as advice on anything to keep a eye out for with Regals. Appreciate any insight from regal boat owners in the forum. Thanks

You can start by giving us some more info about your new boat and what options it has. Also, how do you plan to use it? As a day boat or an overnighter?
Admin: this topic should be moved to the over 25' forum.

Welcome! Ask a lot of questions and practice. Believe it or not there are actual rules of the road. I don't think most people know them where I boat. www.boatus.org/study-guide/navigation/rules/USCG Auxiliary offers a boating safety course that I found very informative and helpful when I first started boating. www.cgaux.org/boatinged/The more you practice the more confidence you will gain allowing you to handle the different situations that will arise. Have fun

LG, I found the OP post on the Boats over 25' tab? Did you move it? No big deal, just wondering?

LG, I found the OP post on the Boats over 25' tab? Did you move it? No big deal, just wondering? I moved the “ looking for a good used trailer” post because the OP asked me too.

I would second the recommendations to get a bit more training than just what you go through to get the license if your state requires that. The coast Guard Auxiliary is a great course to get some solid background on boating safety and even some handling tips. Another suggestion, if you are really completely new to boat handling, would be getting a licensed captain to take you through an afternoon of training. It's a great way to learn some of the basics and also some things you may never pick up on your own or through reading. I would recommend it highly. One big suggestion from me is...when docking...neutral is your friend. Use it wisely and use the throttles carefully.
Congratulations and welcome to boating!

TC, fully agree! After having many boats over my life time (from memory, 8X) the biggest challenge after getting the 4160 was backing it into a finger slip! No joy stick stuff, V drive inboards, two throttles and two gear levers (and two rudders). This is the first boat that we had with a covered year round slip that you need to "back into". Youngest son is the expert, but he is the one using the vessel 99% of the time. Wondering how/where OP docks/stores / or trailers boat? Most likely not trailering?

Thanks for your helpful tips. they have all been beneficial. As for my boat its a Steel Grey 2020 Regal 28 Express, loaded with a generator. My wife and I have taken the coast guard safety course and it was very helpful. Also my boat dealer in VA has given me 6 hours with a boat captain to show us a few things and share information. So we should have the basics covered. Appreciate all your tips and if you think of anything else please let me know. Especially if your anyone boating in the Washington DC area along the Potomac and Chesapeake Bay. Thanks again

The color combo sounds stunning. I hope you consider posting some pictures of your boat some time!

Congrats on your new 28 Express. 6 hours of captain training will be a great start. Nice color combo as well, but I'm a little biased since we went with the steel grey as well. Can't wait to get to the boat this spring. We're blocked from that right now due to the shut down in Maryland, but hopefully things will open up soon. Hopefully, you are not impacted the same way.

I love the steel gray color. We did ours with steel gray and Bimini blue bootstripe on our 33 express. The steel gray is very easy to take care of and keep clean. My previous 3 boats were black, never again!
My previous boat to my 33 was a 28 express. It is a great boat. Maneuvering around the docks can be tricky in the wind unless you have a bow thruster. Practice docking, the 28 is a big tall single engine boat that requires you to dig into the throttle when docking to get it to respond and it takes some getting used to.
